This course will be a brief introduction to functional constipation and bowel and bladder dysfunction as it relates to students with disabilities at school. Its impact on participation and self determination will be reviewed. The role of the school-based physical therapist and strategies for assisting with bowel/bladder training will be discussed. Strategies, tools, and barriers for increasing bowel and bladder independence will be identified. Description of IEP goal development and collaboration with the IEP team will be provided. Experience with implementation- thorns and roses- in a school setting will be shared.
