“Understanding Changes to the Home Health Prospective Payment System (HH PPS): The 2008 HH PPS Final Rule.”

Hurry—Registration ends Monday, October 22, at midnight EST!

Featured Speakers:
Cindy Krafft, MS, PT, COS – C
Ellen Strunk, MS, PT

On August 29, 2007, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the final rule for the Home Health Prospective Payment System (HH PPS) for Calendar Year 2008. This rule, which implemented the first major changes to the payment system since its inception, finalized many of the proposed changes outlined by CMS in April 2007. In addition to a 3% increase to the home health market basket, the rule significantly changes the OASIS and case-mix groups, and it creates a new therapy threshold. These changes, which take effect January 1, 2008, will have serious implications for home health physical therapists by affecting reimbursement rates and how patients are assessed and treated.

APTA has assembled home health experts Cindy Krafft and Ellen Strunk to help explain the provisions of this new rule and how to make adjustments to existing practices to ensure compliance. During a Q&A session following the presentations, you will be able to ask questions directly to the experts.

Upon completion of the audio conference, you will be able to:

· Understand the basics of the Home Health Prospective Payment System
· Describe the changes made to the HH PPS for 2008
· Discuss revisions to the case-mix system and OASIS
· Identify the adjustments Medicare will make to your payments
· Explain how these changes might affect your existing practice and how to comply
· And much more

Hurry—registration ends Monday, October 22!

Visceral Manipulation: Abdomen 1;Organ Specific Fascial Mobilization (VM1)
An integrative approach to evaluation/treatment of musculoskeletal
dysfunction requires assessment of structural relationships between viscera,
and their fascial/ligamentous attachments to the musculoskeletal system. This is taught in Visceral Manipulation 1. All viscera have physiological motion that relates to normal pain-free movement; so knowledge of these relationships and anatomy involved are essential to see patients within an integrated framework. An integrated approach also requires attention to mechanical relationships between the cranium/spine hard frame to the dura/neural elements.

Is It Medicare Fact or Fiction?: A practical guide for documenting Medicare compliant services in the SNF and outpatient Part B settings.
Course Description:
This one day comprehensive presentation will assist the therapist in understanding the complexities of the Medicare regulations covering the documentation requirements for rehabilitation services under Part A in SNFs and Part B by all providers.

The scrutiny that the Medicare provider is presently experiencing will not be going away soon; in fact the review of the appropriateness of the services will significantly increase in the near future throughout all provider settings. This course includes such topics as coverage of services requirements for SNF; how Medicare regards medically necessary services for Part A SNF and all Part B providers; how to clearly document those services to ensure a positive Medical Review and understanding of the 8 minute rule.

With the knowledge gained through this course, the licensed professional is empowered to make decisions and take action to ensure Medicare compliance, quality of care and maximize legitimate reimbursement for their services.

The course is designed to qualify for 7.5 clock hours or 450 instructional minutes. This course has been pre-approved by the Connecticut Physical Therapy Association for 7.5 continuing education hours.
